Hello, and welcome to my website. My name is Kate Ferriter.
Growing up in beautiful rural western Massachusetts, I always knew I was destined to be a painter. Influenced by the beauty of the land, and artwork of my Mother and my Great Aunt, I decided early on that art school was in my future. While majoring in painting at Massachusetts College of Art in the 1970’s, I struggled with the predominance of abstract painting. But I found that the courses in color and light thankfully influenced me tremendously throughout the rest of my art career.
After keeping my hand in the arts for years while working other jobs, I finally became a full time artist at the age of 50. After fighting a battle with cancer and winning, the objective was clear. Do what I love, and am meant to do. Painting and gardening both became the paths to a full and meaningful life.
Besides majoring in painting at Mass. Art, I have studied at the Woodstock School of Art, The Cape School of Art, and The Wallkill River School.
I joyously participated in the Open Studio movement in Newburgh NY for years, and had my own gallery in my home.
The environment is my subject, wherever I land. At the moment, I live in Las Cruces, NM. The Land of Enchantment.
I work mostly in Oils, however I love Watercolor, Printmaking, and Monotypes.
