This is a link that I have thought about for a long time. I wanted to keep things fresh, and maybe try out some new ideas.<\/p>\n
Like: A book I am reading, or just finished. A recipe that I made up, or tried that someone else has, and it is worth sharing. These are things that matter to me. Things that make me who I am, and have an impact indirectly on what I paint. However skewed that might sound, it is probably true. After all, everything we do impacts everything else that we do.<\/p>\n
So, I have been working on a painting all week. I have had this piece on my to do list since the Blue Moon back in August. For a few nights in a row, my husband and I went down to the waterfront and watched the moon come up over the mountains on the other side of the Hudson River. Those were some beautiful nights. We tried different spots, and moved from place to place as the moon rose. And then on the ride home, the streets and the streetlights were calling out to me. The air seemed different. Exciting. The bugs were sounding off, and the energy was palpable. I have had time to think about how to approach these paintings, to get things in order in my head before I start working on them. This latest piece is number two from this group of works. I will start on number three tomorrow. South and Fullerton was the first one I did, because I had to. This light particles in this intersection were crazy, crashing together in the intensity of this lunar night. The new one with the barge on the river at night was what I intended to paint first, but it had to take the second spot. Let’s see how the next piece fits in the series.<\/p>\n
The book I just finished reading is called “First They Killed My Father. A daughter of Cambodia Remembers”. It was written by Loung Ung. It is a true story, and one that makes me think long and hard about life, and what people do to each other. About the Pol Pots of the world, and all the idiots who follow them.
